Float Generation Theory

This panel aims to mimic how the wear value on real skins is generated. The order of operations and math used here is entirely derived from a substantial reverse engineering effort relying heavily on validating already generated floats. The wear band controls how rare a float range for a particular skin is.

  • The selected wear band tells the generator which float range to sample from.
  • The seed (1-2147483647) is then used to find the specific float within that range.
  • The resolved output shows what the current seed and selected band actually produce.

Float Ranks

Float ranks are only applicable to floats generated by drops or unboxed skins. Wear generation maps ~2.1 billion seeds onto a smaller set of unique 32-bit float wear bands. Three things don't count toward rank:

  • Duplicate seeds - many seeds produce the same output. These share one rank.
  • Float gaps - wear bands cause big natural gaps. Floats within these gaps are not ranked.
  • Impossible float - the float generation algorithm causes tiny gaps all over the spectrum. These floats do not count towards the rank.

Ultimately you can use this rank number to see how many unique floats are possible to be generated by a drop or unboxing above or below the target float.
